Flourish is a Travel and Lifestyle publication focusing its content around outdoor living, nature, culture, sustainability and the search for a physical existence.
Started by designer and photographer, Lucy Saunders, Flourish reflects her passion for travel, ecological adventures, exploring the natural world and documenting new places. The publication sits heavily around a photographic approach containing photo-essays, interviews, geographical statements and personal stories of adventure. Each volume is set around one place, continent, community, culture or location. Flourish is a publication which thrives off of the meaning of ‘to flourish’ itself; (of a living organism) grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly congenial environment.
The first volume of Flourish follows an expedition to Japan and Indonesia, returning to the UK with discoveries of Asian lifestyle and cuisine. Exploring the grappling hike of Mt. Takao in the scorching heat in Hachiōji, the spiritual nature of the secret gardens of Kyoto, and the foodie realm of Osaka, before exploring the geographical diversity of Tokyo. The adventures continue onto Indonesia where they follow ash planes to Mt. Bromo in East Java, exploring some of the most diverse land across the country from its rich city populations to its mountainous rice plantations. Following this colourful cultural experience they reflect in a selection of their favourite coffee shops along the journey before bringing culinary discoveries back to the cities of the UK with Kalpna Woolf and Megan Hallett exhibiting their finest Asian cuisine.
